What is the Naturopathic Approach?
We are honored that you’re considering working with us. Dr. Mescon is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND). Like medical doctors, Naturopathic doctors train at four-year post-baccalaureate medical schools in the US and Canada.
We call our practice a Naturopathic Functional Medicine Practice (it’s a mouthful, we know). Here’s why:
Naturopathic medicine is a system of healthcare that considers the whole patient, emphasizes prevention, and supports the self-healing process.
Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease.
Dr. Mescon blends these philosophies in practice – we combine natural therapies and traditional healing wisdom with the latest medical knowledge and research to create optimal conditions for your body to heal. Read on to learn more about the naturopathic approach and to decide if it’s the right fit for you.
Naturopathic medicine is a primary healthcare system focusing on prevention, treatment, and vitality. It does this not by delivering primary care as you might know it (yearly tests, administration of pills for symptoms), but through therapeutic methods that encourage your body’s self-healing process. Naturopathic doctors specialize in natural and least-invasive therapies. Unlike other holistic medicine practitioners, Naturopathic Doctors are trained to diagnose and treat disease, and can prescribe pharmaceuticals when indicated. In our practice, we work with you as detectives to discover and treat the underlying cause of illness rather than attending only to the symptoms. We want to help you feel better, but we also want to understand why you feel the way you do.
When you step into our office, you’re taking a step to create optimal conditions so your body can heal. It is our hope that you come to our appointments with curiosity and optimism – ready to ask questions and tune into your body’s messages.
